World No.1 Roger Federer started off his clay court season this year at Estoril Open in Portugal. Roger Federer also won his first ATP title for year 2008 in Estoril Open with World No.4 Nikolay Davydenko retired in the second set. Roger took the first-set tie-break in 62min and Davydenko could not hold on any longer with a muscle strain in his left leg during the second set. The battle between the World No.1 and World No.4 brought a record attendance of 53,888 spectators this year but it was a pity that Nikolay Davydenko could not finish the match.
Estoril Open Title sure is a great boost in Roger's confidence after falling out earlier in the Australian Open, AMS Indian Wells and AMS Miami. It also does help to secure his first place ranking with additional 175 South African ATP Rankings points. This week will be the AMS Monte-Carlo. Can World No.2 Rafael Nadal win for the fourth consecutive times?
